Abstract

A numerical simulation system to calculate residual gravity and Marangoni convection has been developed by NASDA (National Space Development Agency of Japan) in order to support researchers who conduct material processing experiments in microgravity. Boundary fixing methods and finite difference methods are applied to solve the governing equations. Residual gravity convection, solidification combined convection, and Marangoni convection are calculated by this system, and are evaluated by comparison with experimental results.
